Branding for a ramen shop in Hong Kong.

IN THIS POST APOCALYPTIC WORK RESOURCES ARE SCARCE BUT STYLE IS KEY. HUMANITY RELIES ON THE SCRAPS OF THE OLD WORLD TO CREATE SOMETHING NEW.

I used the movie making and world building from the film Mad Max: Fury Road as a jumping off point for my visual research for this project. I was inspired by the need to reuse materials and create as little waste as possible. After settling on the key themes of scaricity and adornment, I chose multiplr garmnent archytypes to ‘collage’ together as if made by old found garments. After an apocalyptic world-ending event mass production is no longer possible, so humanity must rely on found objects of old to create new garments, armour, accessories, etc. I started my draping by making a one sleeve Kimono shape since it is zero waste and creates a large, voluminous jacket base. I continued my drapung by finding ways to manipulate and adorn the jacket base. After playing with different belting and wrapping techiques and armour/protection placed onto the jacket I settled on creating a oversized kimono based jacket with a exagerated quilted elbow patch and stap closures inspired by vintage straight jackets. Since I also wanted a level of practically I created a harness inspired by old american football padding as protection for the harsh post apocalyptic world. For under my jacket I created a vest using cut up pieces of used rib-knit sweaters that I surgered together in a collage like technique.
